Self-baking soderberg electrodes

The Soderberg electrode is a self-baking electrode, as the calcination of the raw materials occurs inside the furnace, in the vertical tubular casing.
Electrical current flows inside the shell and as the paste moves down, the temperature increases melting the paste and subsequently baking it, producing a firm column of electrically conductive carbon.
As the electrode consumes inside the furnace, some additional electrode paste is added on top of the column.
